“American Idol” Confirms Top 24 Contestant Was Disqualified

FOX confirmed rumors Thursday that Chris Golightly was deemed ineligible for the “American Idol” top 24, paving the way for Tim Urban to join the semifinals.

The “Idol” community buzzed excessively when Golightly, who had been featured in spoiler reports for the top 24, was absent from the final video montage–Urban, who had not really received any attention during Wednesday’s episode, was instead announced as part of the Top 12 males.

“It has been determined that Chris Golightly is ineligible to continue in the competition. AMERICAN IDOL contestant Tim Urban has replaced Golightly as part of the Top 24,” read FOX’s statement.

The reason for the disqualification was not disclosed, but there have been rumors that his ineligibility stems from some sort of recording contract.
