Backstage News on the Final Episode of ECW

While the ECW finale marked the culmination of one of wrestling’s most beloved brands, WWE’s focus was more so on preparing for the future than celebrating the past.

That mentality affected a number of decisions related to the booking of Tuesday’s finale. An idea to let Christian emerge victorious in his final ECW Championship defense, one which would have closed the show on a happy note, was shot down, for instance, because WWE officials felt there was more value in giving Ezekiel Jackson the benefit of a high-profile victory.

Hope that WWE would bring back some past ECW names for a cameo similarly went unfulfilled as WWE decided the show needed to prioritize getting the NXT concept over for next week’s premiere.
