Kanye West’s “Leno” Statement On Taylor Swift Incident

Initially scheduled for the premiere of “The Jay Leno Show” to perform “Run This Town” with Jay-Z and Rihanna, Kanye West naturally took time to comment on the Taylor Swift incident during the NBC talk show.

“Yeah, it’s been extremely difficult. I just…just dealing with the fact that I hurt someone or took anything away, you know, from a talented artist or from anyone, because I only wanted to help people,” said West in what was billed as an unplanned interview with host Jay Leno. “My entire life, I’ve only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right. And I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong, and it wasn’t a spectacle or just — you know, it’s actually someone’s emotions, you know, that I stepped on. And it was very…it was just…it was rude, period. And, you know, I’d like to be able to apologize to her in person.”

West, who noted that he knew he was in the wrong the second he gave the microphone back to Swift, said, “I deal with hurt…I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt.”

“I don’t try to justify it because I was just in the wrong. That’s period. But I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyze how I’m going to make it through the rest of this life, how I’m going to improve. Because I am a celebrity, and that’s something I have to deal with. And if there’s anything I could do to help Taylor in the future or help anyone, I’d like — you know, I want to live this thing,” said West.

Kanye West made headlines after he unexpectedly interrupted Taylor Swift during her Best Female Video Acceptance speech at Sunday’s Video Music Awards. Upset that Swift’s “You Belong with Me” beat Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” out for the award, West vented about the decision, leaving Swift–and much of the audience–in shock.

  1. Just to note, Kanye had actually been booked several weeks ago as the high-profile debut musical guest for the song with Jay-Z and Rihanna. The interview was a late call to take advantage of the controversy and allow Kanye to get the crowd back on his side prior to performing.

  2. Re: apology on Leno by Kanye.

    Apology not accepted.

I don’t get Kanye. He seems sincere, every time he apologizes for each incident–running on to stage to express his opinions when it is not his “spotlight”. Is this an ego problem. I don’t get it.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

    I just don’t get it.

  3. jay leno just wanted to make a point to him. kanye knows what he did was wrong and everyone makes mistakes but they learn tom them. if you watch jay run you would hear that jay asked,”what would your mother think of you or say to you if she saw that?” now that is a deep cut right there and kanye evenstartrd crying. jay got it through his head even more and if your gonna stop watching him then good cause you’re probably some idiot that doesn’t even get half of his jokes.

  4. @ the one, your comments are really hurtful and inappropriate. be mad at Kanye but don’t make deragatory comments about African Americans in the process. Also, violence or the threat of violence towards a person for acts that we all would agree were both inappropriate and incivil, doesn’t make sense. How do you regard someone’s behavior as indecent and meet it with more indecent behavior. I’m praying for you. I believe whomever you are, you are better than that.

  5. I think Kanye’s apology was sincere, he got choked up when Jay asked if his mother would approve, and I think that made him realize what he’d done.

  6. He is still a big turd. Its not the first time he has acted like a jackass. He was acting this way when his mom was alive so don’t blame it on “your hurt”

  7. I’ve been so lonely girl, I’ve been so sad and down
Couldn’t understand why haters joked around
I wanted to be free with other creatures like me
And now I got my wish, cause I know that I’m a gay fish (gay fish)

  8. right on jim dandy! just months after he was called out by the south park boys he’s still mowing down fish sticks. “just get it, man, please, just get it!!”
