The year’s hottest new drama returned from its holiday hiatus Tuesday night. It confirmed that Toby survived his heart attack — and then survived a surgery to fix an issue with his heart. He also professed his love (and interest in marrying) Kate.
When rejecting a returning Olivia to remain with the more loyal, loving, accepting Sloane (both professionally and romantically), Kevin commented that one has to do the right thing, even if it is not what they really want. Sloane overheard, and her heart was broken.
William expressed his desire to cease chemotherapy, and Randall supported the decision.
We also flashed back to the moment Jack and Rebecca learned they were having triplets. The financial concerns were immediate, but a determined Jack accepted a loan from his abusive father, sold his car, and put together the money to buy the house in which Kevin, Randall and Kate would eventually grow up.
Next week, the flashback action shifts to Jack’s birthday — and Rebecca’s impending delivery date. It is, fittingly, called “The Big Day.”
“As the birth date of her triplets quickly approaches, a frazzled and emotional Rebecca forgets Jack’s birthday,” says NBC regarding the next installment of “This Is Us.” “Dr. K struggles with the loss of his wife and wonders how he’ll be able to continue on with his life without her. Joe – the firefighter who delivered baby Randall to the hospital – fights to save his marriage.”
The episode airs at 9PM ET/PT on January 17. In advance of the episode, NBC shared photos:
