After six weeks of build-up, it was clear The Rock and John Cena were going to have a physical confrontation at WWE WrestleMania 27, although what was actually booked likely fell short of some fans’ expectations.
With everything in the match falling flat in comparison to the show-stopping Triple H vs. Undertaker match, the John Cena vs. Miz WWE Championship match ended with a double countout after Cena laid himself out attacking Miz over the ringside barricade.
Out came The Rock, who ordered the match to continue with no disqualifications or countouts. The action soon restarted, with Cena setting Miz up for a quick Attitude Adjustment. The Miz used the ropes to escape the hold, and as Cena backed off, he walked into a Rock Bottom. Miz covered Cena to retain the Championship.
After the match, The Rock laid out Miz with another People’s Elbow.
While many were cringing at the possibility that WWE might recreate the infamous WrestleMania IX ending by having Rock win the title in an impromptu match, what actually occurred on television was generally considered the minimum scenario for Rock’s involvement.
It does, however, setup another Rock appearance for Monday’s RAW.
