Although Thursday’s ratings again prove that “American Idol” was better served by the Tuesday-Wednesday schedule, the FOX staple still dominated the ratings race, sending ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” to a series low in the process.
“Idol”‘s two-hour “green mile” show averaged a 7.2 adults 18-49 rating with 21.58 million viewers. The show massacred the competition in both hours; at 8PM, CBS, its closest competitor, offered a 3.8 with 12.51 million viewers for “The Big Bang Theory” and a 2.8 with 9.63 million for “Rules of Engagement.”
At 9PM, “Grey’s Anatomy” was only able to offer an all-time low 3.3 with 9.10 million viewers as “Idol”‘s strongest competitor. From 9-9:30PM, NBC was also in the mix with “The Office” (3.3 rating with 6.20 million viewers).
While the series-low dip for “Grey’s” can partially be blamed on “American Idol,” it is still becoming clear that the show is aging and gradually losing its audience in the process.
