Ariana Grande’s “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” could win a close race to claim #1 on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.

The single currently trails Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” on the real-time chart, but it does have the clear momentum advantage. Whereas the Ariana Grande song is up 9% from the same-time-last-week mark, “Beautiful Things” is down 3%.

If the songs remain on these rough trajectories through the final two days of the tracking period, “we can’t be friends” will close the week as the week’s #1 song.

As a reminder, the Mediabase pop radio chart goes official on Sundays and accounts for a Sunday-Saturday tracking period.
