Lorde’s new single may very well be arriving this week.
A teaser ad running on New Zealand television features Lorde casually eating and drinking in the back of a car. It concludes with the following note:
3.2.17 NYC / 3.3.17 NZ
The obvious interpretation is that Lorde’s new song will arrive on March 2, 2017 in New York and March 3, 2017 in her New Zealand home. Due to time zone differences, the release could actually be concurrent (Auckland is 18 hours ahead of New York, so 6AM in New York City is midnight of the following day in Auckland).
The aforementioned dates correspond with the now-infamous Republic Records radio listing, which revealed that a new Lorde song would be impacting pop radio on March 7. Because major songs often impact the first Tuesday after their release, the March 7 date essentially confirmed that Lorde’s new single would be arriving between March 1 (first day after the previous impact date) and March 3 (“New Music Friday”).
NBC recently provided another reason to anticipate an imminent new Lorde release: the Grammy-winning artist will be performing on the March 11 “Saturday Night Live.”
Numerous Tweets have emerged containing the teaser spot; one is embedded below:
