As we near the end of season one, “Westworld” fans can rejoice.
The critically acclaimed HBO series has been renewed for season two. Fellow Sunday night series “Insecure” and “Divorce” have also secured pickups for next season.
HBO made the news official in a Medium statement Monday.
“I am thrilled to announce the pickup of our three fall series, all of which have distinctive, original voices,” said HBO’s Casey Bloys. “Critics and viewers alike have welcomed WESTWORLD and INSECURE, as well as the return of Sarah Jessica Parker to the network after 12 years with DIVORCE.”
While not a live+same-day blockbuster, “Westworld” is performing solidly by cable standards. It is also receiving a mammoth lift from multi-platform/encore/on-demand/DVR broadcasts. Whereas the initial airings are drawing fewer than 2 million live+same-day viewers, the episodes are averaging a gross audience of 11.7 million.
“Divorce” and “Insecure” are receiving similar lifts. The premieres do not generate close to 1 million live+same-day viewers (“Insecure” has not even been attracting 500,000 L+SD viewers), but the episodes end up reaching 4.4 million and 3.2 million, respectively.
