Weeknd & Daft Punk’s “Starboy” Received 1,742 Day One Spins At Pop, 438 At Rhythmic, 399 At Urban

Aided by “on the hour” airplay promotions and the enthusiasm one would expect for a new The Weeknd single — especially one featuring Daft Punk — “Starboy” posted strong first-day airplay totals at pop and rhythmic radio.

According to Mediabase, “Starboy” received 1,742 first day spins at pop radio. It also garnered 438 opening day plays at rhythmic radio and 399 opening day plays at the urban format.

The counts position “Starboy” at #27 on Mediabase’s building pop chart, #38 on the building rhythmic chart, and #39 on the building urban chart. The building charts rank songs based on airplay from the first five days of the September 18-24 tracking week.

While it is unclear how the song’s respective chart positions will change during the week’s final two days, it is very clear “Starboy” is making an instant splash on all three formats.

The song is the title track from The Weeknd’s new album, which streets on November 25.
