Kenny Chesney’s “Setting The World On Fire (with P!nk)” is thus far only an official single at Kenny Chesney’s core country radio format.
Thanks to P!nk’s involvement, the song is nonetheless receiving attention from two major market hot adult contemporary stations.
Over the past seven days, the duet has received 16 spins from the Boston-based Mix 104-1 and 14 spins from San Francisco’s Alice@97.3.
Collectively, the spins have generated 390,000 hot adult contemporary audience impressions.
It is unclear whether the song will receive a formal push at Hot AC. Country, after all, tends to have a stigma at mainstream radio formats — even undeniable smash hits like Sam Hunt’s “Take Your Time” and Thomas Rhett’s “Die A Happy Man” met some resistance at the format. Despite massive sales, the accessible nature of its sound, strong callout scores and buzz surrounding Hunt, “Take Your Time” did not make the Top 10 at Hot AC Radio. “Die A Happy Man” missed the Top 20.
The inclusion of P!nk — and a chorus very true to her usual sound — may, however, help compensate for any bias Hot AC programmers have toward a country star like Chesney. P!nk’s own single “Just Like Fire” recently hit #1 at Hot AC.
Aided by “on the hour” first day airplay across the iHeartMedia Network, “Setting The World On Fire” debuted at #32 on last week’s Mediabase country radio singles chart. It may not move much higher this week, but it should begin to soar as in the coming weeks.
