With three days of the tracking week now in the books, it appears safe to conclude that Sia’s “Cheap Thrills (featuring Sean Paul)” will claim #1 on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.
The song received 7,774 spins during the first three days of the July 17-23 tracking week. Up 12.2% from the count at the same time last week, the tally positions “Cheap Thrills” at a comfortable #1 on the building chart.
Since they are on the decline, The Chainsmokers’ building #2 “Don’t Let Me Down (featuring Daya)” and Drake’s building #3 “One Dance” do not pose credible threats to Sia’s tune. Calvin Harris’ building #4 “This Is What You Came For (featuring Rihanna)” is up in week-to-week airplay (7,015 spins across the first three days, +5.9%), but it is not gaining quickly enough to challenge “Cheap Thrills” for #1 this week.
Upon topping this week’s chart, “Cheap Thrills” will become Sia’s first #1 hit at pop radio. Her previous high came courtesy Flo Rida’s #2-peaking “Wild Ones,” on which she appears as a featured artist.
Prior to “Cheap Thrills,” Sia’s highest ranking pop hit as a lead artist was the #10-peaking “Chandelier.”
