While it avoided overall series lows in adults 18-49 and total viewership, Tuesday’s “Pretty Little Liars” was the show’s worst-performing season or midseason premiere on record.
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Tuesday’s seventh season premiere posted a 0.67 adults 18-49 rating and reached 1.43 million total viewers.
Though up from those of the sixth season finale (0.59, 1.19 million), the numbers trail the 1.06/2.38 million drawn by 2015’s sixth season premiere and the 1.06/2.25 million drawn by early 2016’s mid-sixth season opener.
Prior to this Tuesday, the mid-fifth season premiere was the least-watched opener on record (2.01 million). The series premiere, which drew a 0.9 in the adults 18-49 demo, was its lowest-rated premiere.
Despite the “premiere low” distinction, Tuesday’s episode still fared reasonably well from a competitive standpoint — among adults 18-49, it was the night’s #4 cable original. It also remains head-and-shoulders above the average for Freeform’s other programming.
