Meghan Trainor, Tori Kelly, Sam Hunt, Courtney Barnett, James Bay Nominated for Best New Artist

Last year, Meghan Trainor competed for two of the “Big Four” prizes at the annual Grammy Awards.

This year, she’ll compete for one of the others. Trainor is among the nominees for Best New Artist at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

Trainor will compete against Tori Kelly, Sam Hunt, Courtney Barnett, and James Bay.

Due to her distance from the American mainstream, Barnett may represent the closest thing to a surprise. Her combination of industry buzz and critical acclaim, however, kept her on the radar — and on some analysts’ prediction lists.

Trainor, Hunt, Bay, and Kelly had long been considered likely nominees.
