The series premiere of NBC’s “Blindspot” cruised to victory (among broadcast networks) in the 10-11PM timeslot.

Monday’s episode posted an impressive 3.1 adults 18-49 rating with 10.65 million viewers. While not as hot as 2013’s “The Blacklist” premiere in either category, it was an undoubtedly strong showing for the new drama.

Competitive programming on CBS (“NCIS: Los Angeles”) and ABC (“Castle”) drew markedly weaker numbers. The former posted a 1.2 with 8.00 million viewers; the latter drew a 1.2 with 7.09 million.

The question now concerns whether “Blindspot” can retain its numbers in the coming weeks. Respectable first season retention – not necessarily the strong premiere number – is what made “The Blacklist” such an impressive performer during the 2013-14 cycle.

NBC led into “Blindspot” with “The Voice.” While down from last fall’s premiere (3.9, 12.58 million), it still performed admirably. The show averaged a 3.5 with 12.14 million viewers from 8-10PM. The 9-10PM portion, which directly led into “Blindspot,” posted a 3.8 with 13.02 million.
