Going into the August 14-20 tracking week, The Weeknd’s “The Hills” already held a platinum certification under the RIAA’s digital singles program. That certification signifies a US unit total – derived from the combination of paid downloads and streams/100- of at least one million.

When the tracking week ended, its actual US sales total exceeded 1 million.

According to Nielsen Music, “The Hills” had shifted 933,390 copies going into the August 14-20 sales week. While a final sales total for that week has not yet been published, enough insight exists to confirm its total crossed the 1 million mark.

“The Hills” needed to sell just under 67,000 copies to achieve the feat; industry projections say it moved in the neighborhood of 80,000.

“The Hills” is the third “Beauty Behind the Madness” single to cross the 1 million US sales mark. The Weeknd also did so with “Earned It” (now comfortably over 2 million) and “Can’t Feel My Face” (now at nearly 1.3 million).
