Album Sales: Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” Moved 6K Last Week; Total Now 5.7 Million

Available for paid download for the first time since 2011, Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” predictably enjoyed a digital sales spike during the June 29-July 5 tracking week.

According to Nielsen Music, the iconic rap album drove approximately 6,000 paid weekly downloads. That total earned “The Chronic” #23 on the Digital Albums chart and #48 on the overall Top Album Sales chart.

Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) added approximately 2,000 units to the album’s overall weekly consumption total. That fostered a return to the (now consumption-oriented) Billboard 200 at #72.

To date, Dr. Dre’s 1992 album has sold 5.7 million copies in the US.
