Ratings: HBO’s “True Detective” Rises from Last Premiere, Falls from Finale; “Ballers,” “The Brink” Debut

With ample hype and a critically acclaimed first season behind it, Sunday’s “True Detective” was naturally going to outperform the 2014 series premiere in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

It did.

It did not, however, outperform the first season finale.

Sunday’s episode of the HBO drama anthology delivered a 1.42 adults 18-49 rating with 3.172 million viewers.

Comparatively, the first season launched with a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating and 2.328 million viewers. It closed with a 1.6 and 3.521 million viewers.

As fan and critical reception to the season two premiere was weaker than it was for the season one launch, it will be interesting to see how the show performs in the coming weeks.

— Other HBO ratings: “Ballers” (1.10, 2.162 million), “The Brink” (0.66, 1.598 million), “Last Week Tonight” (0.55, 1.365 million).
