Single Sales: Mariah Carey’s “Infinity” Sold 6K Copies Last Week

Bolstered by the release of “#1 to Infinity” and exposure during the Sunday, May 17 Billboard Music Awards and the Monday, May 18 edition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Mariah Carey’s “Infinity” drove what Nielsen Music reports as approximately 6,000 paid US downloads during the May 18-24 tracking week.

While that represents an 81% gain from the previous week’s sales mark, it is still a decidedly modest figure.

Modesty has been the theme of Carey’s recent sales performances.

Launched on April 27, “Infinity” moved a mere 26,000 copies during its first week of release. Powered by that sales total and its first week streaming and radio activity, “Infinity” debuted at a modest #82 on the subsequent week’s Hot 100.

It did not even appear on the following week’s chart — or any Hot 100 listing since.

Compilation “#1 to Infinity,” which features “Infinity” alongside Carey’s eighteen #1 hits, moved a modest 15,183 copies during its first week of release.
