Luke Bryan’s “Kick the Dust Up” appears at #26 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 and at #2 on this week’s Hot Country Songs chart.
The song’s first week sales total played a valuable role in securing those strong chart positions.
According to Nielsen Music, “Kick the Dust Up” drove 127,000 paid US downloads during the May 18-24 tracking week. That total was the week’s best for a country song and fifth-best across all genres.
Certainly impressive, the figure markedly trails those posted by Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ It Down” and Florida Georgia Line’s “Dirt” last summer. Those songs, which also served as lead singles from superstar country albums, moved 184,000 and 182,000 first week copies, respectably.
Bryan may, however, get his victory back when album “Kill the Lights” launches this August.
Featuring “Burnin’ it Down,” Aldean’s “Old Boots, New Dirt” moved 278,000 copies in its first week. Florida Georgia Line’s “Dirt”-containing “Anything Goes” sold 197,000 in its inaugural frame.
It would be considered a massive surprise if Bryan’s “Kill the Lights,” which includes “Kick the Dust Up,” sold fewer than 278,000 copies in its first week.
His previous album “Crash My Party” debuted with 528,000 first week sales.
