My Morning Jacket’s “The Waterfall” Debuts with 33K Sales; Trails “Circuital” By 40%

My Morning Jacket’s first studio album in four years suffered an album-to-album sales drop of roughly 40%.

According to Nielsen Music, the band’s new offering “The Waterfall” moved 33,054 pure copies during its inaugural week of release. It was the week’s fifth-best-selling newcomer.

Previous album “Circuital,” which debuted in 2011, moved 55,000 copies in its first frame and ranked fifth among all albums that week.

Album-to-album sales drops also affected two of the week’s other notable newcomers. Mumford & Sons’ “Wilder Mind,” which won the weekly sales race, suffered a sales decline of roughly 62% from predecessor “Babel.” Ciara’s “Jackie” endured a 66% drop from her self-titled 2013 release.
