Ratings: ABC’s “Scandal” Slips, “Grey’s Anatomy” Falls 19% (Updated)

Update: ABC dramas “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” both slipped in the ratings this week.

According to final broadcast data, this week’s “Scandal” drew a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 7.44 million viewers. Off last week, “Scandal” posted a 2.3 with 7.79 million viewers on April 23.

While lead-in “Grey’s Anatomy” topped “Scandal” in total viewership, its week-over-week decline was far more significant.

Last week’s two-hour edition of the veteran drama, which was dedicated to the fallout from Derek Shepherd’s death, scored a 2.6 with 8.74 million viewers. This week’s hourlong edition delivered a 2.1 with 7.74 million.

“American Crime” closed ABC’s night with a 1.0 and 4.17 million total viewers.

All three series have been renewed for 2015-16.

Based on fast national data, ABC dramas “Scandal and “Grey’s Anatomy” both endured ratings declines this week.

“Scandal,” which returned after ceding last week’s slot to a two-hour “Grey’s,” drew a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 7.45 million viewers. Both numbers narrowly trail those of the previous airing, which posted a 2.3 rating with 7.79 million viewers.

While 8PM lead-in “Grey’s Anatomy” can celebrate the fact that it tied “Scandal” in the demo and ranked as ABC’s most-watched Thursday show (both rare feats), it took a hit from last week’s Derek Shepherd fall-out episode.

After scoring a 2.6 with 8.74 million viewers for last week’s two-hour installment, “Grey’s” drew a 2.2 with 7.88 million in the 8-9PM slot this week.

Given that the previous two “Grey’s” installments were due to receive the most direct spike from the Derek Shepherd death storyline, a comparison to the April 16 episode is also warranted. This week’s episode actually bested that installment, which drew a 2.1 with 7.60 million viewers.

“American Crime” closed ABC’s night with a 1.0 and 4.26 million viewers; last week’s drew a 0.9 with 3.63 million.

All three dramas have been renewed for next season.
