Wednesday’s “The Americans” was a game changer.
After more than two-and-a-half seasons of action — and particularly extreme recent teases — Elizabeth and Phillip finally revealed the truth of their identities to their daughter Paige.
The transformative moment did not, however, air before a particularly sizable audience.
Wednesday’s episode of the drama drew a mere 0.25 adults 18-49 rating with 895,000 viewers. Both numbers trail those of the previous installment, which drew a 0.27 with 988,000 viewers.
This week’s viewership average was actually the second-weakest on record. Only the February 25 episode, which drew 811,000 viewers, reached a smaller audience.
Last year’s corresponding episode, which aired on April 30, 2014, attracted a considerably stronger audience of 1.274 million.
Despite a third season full of soft ratings performances, “The Americans” has officially been renewed for a fourth season. News of that renewal, which came with a note that the show is enjoying a greater uptick from time-shifted viewing than it did in its previous two seasons, broke Tuesday.
