Ratings: “American Idol” Does Not Receive Big Kelly Clarkson Boost (Update)

Update: Per final broadcast data, Wednesday’s “American Idol” drew a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating with 8.48 million viewers.

Its very narrow lead over last week’s broadcast, which drew a 1.7 with 8.46 million, suggests that the heavy Kelly Clarkson involvement did not substantially move the ratings needle.

Effectively a tribute to original “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson, Wednesday’s episode featured Clarkson as a mentor and guest performer. It also asked its contestants to exclusively select songs from her discography.

An interesting endeavor, it did not make a noticeable impact on the ratings.

Per fast national data, Wednesday’s “Idol” drew a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating with 8.01 million viewers at 8PM and a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating with 8.72 million viewers at 9PM. The performance was almost precisely on par with last week’s episode, which drew a 1.7/8.07 million at 8PM and a 1.7/8.62 million in the comparable fast nationals.

Final data confirmed an average rating of 1.7 and average viewership mark of 8.46 million for last week’s broadcast.

Among adults 18-49, this week’s “Idol” placed third at 8PM (behind CBS’ “Survivor” and ABC’s “The Middle”/”The Goldbergs”) and second at 9PM (behind ABC’s “Modern Family”/”black-ish”).
