Done rising at pop radio, Ella Henderson’s “Ghost” is still reaching new heights at hot adult contemporary radio.
The song this week ascends to #5 on Mediabase’s official Hot AC airplay chart.
To be confirmed in Sunday evening’s published update, the rise to #5 is attributable to the song’s tracking week (3/1-3/7) spin count of approximately 5,242.
Insofar as that count only narrowly bests the 5,186 earned last week, “Ghost” is definitely showing signs of a slowdown.
While no challenger is in position to imminently leapfrog “Ghost”–Fall Out Boy’s #9 “Centuries,” Kelly Clarkson’s #10 “Heartbeat Song” and Ellie Goulding’s #11 “Love Me Like You Do,” the next highest-charting risers, each trail by more than 1,000 spins–“Ghost” will not necessarily move any higher on the chart.
Other top five Hot AC songs include Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” (#1, ~7,294), Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)” (#2, ~7,226), Maroon 5’s “Sugar” (#3, ~5,896) and Taylor Swift’s “Style” (#4, ~5,513). With the latter two separated by more than two thousand spins and the latter two rising at brisker paces, no obvious opportunity exists for “Ghost” to best its #5 ranking.
