Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song” is Again Hot AC’s Most-Added (Updated)

Update 2: The final hot adult contemporary radio adds count is in, and it speaks very favorably to the resonance of Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song.”

After registering as last week’s most-added song with 34 adds, the Clarkson track retains the crown thanks to pickups from 47 more monitored Mediabase stations.  And, as the below major market breakdown confirms, several of those adds came in major markets.

Taylor Swift’s new single “Style,” which does not “officially” impact until February 9, follows as second-most-added.  It scored 30 this week.

Maroon 5’s “Sugar” is next with 29 adds, while Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” grabs fourth-most-added on the strength of its 21 pickups.

Fifth Harmony’s “Sledgehammer,” which seeks attention from Hot AC after reaching the Top 20 at pop, is the week’s fifth-most-added song.  It won support from 13 monitored stations.

Update: Because this Monday was Martin Luther King Day, the Mediabase Hot AC adds board remained open through Tuesday.

That reality has not notably changed the previously reported hierarchy, but it did produce larger add counts for the week’s top songs.

Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song,” which ranks as most-added for a second consecutive week, sees its weekly adds total bumped up to at least 22. Maroon 5’s “Sugar” follows (and thus repeats as second-most-added) with at least 18 adds, while Taylor Swift’s “Style” nets at least 16 in advance of its official impact.

Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” follows with 15, while Fifth Harmony’s “Sledgehammer” and James Newton Howard’s “The Hanging Tree (featuring Jennifer Lawrence)” tie for fifth-most-added. The two songs each earned at least 8 weekly pickups.
======================

For the second consecutive week, Kelly Clarkson’s new single “Heartbeat Song” ranks as the hot adult contemporary radio format’s most-added song.

After leading the way with 34 adds last week, “Heartbeat Song” remains atop Mediabase’s add board with another 19 monitored pickups this week.

Lesser in quantity, this week’s list of supporting stations is not, however, light on quality. Clarkson’s new tune received pickups from stations in major markets like New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston and DC this week.

Maroon 5’s “Sugar,” which was last week’s second-most-added song, retains that position this week. This time, however, it shares its second-most-added distinction with Taylor Swift’s “Style.” Both songs received 13 monitored Mediabase adds.

Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” follows as fourth-most-added with 11 pickups, while Fifth Harmony’s “Sledgehammer” grabs the fifth-most-added position. It won support from seven monitored Hot AC stations.
