While freshman comedy “Happyland” did resonate with its core audience, MTV deemed that core audience too small. News came Thursday that the network opted not to order a second season of the series.
A half-hour comedy set in a Walt Disney World-like amusement park, “Happyland” aired in an unusual 11PM ET timeslot. That slot assured “Happyland” would never become a major hit, but insofar as it received theoretically compatible lead-in support from comedy “Faking It” (which follows “Awkward”), the expectation was that it would have pulled better than it did.
As Headline Planet first reported, “Happyland” closed its eight-episode first season with a 0.17 adults 18-49 rating and 399,000 viewers on November 18. Both numbers trailed those of the “Faking It” lead-in (0.41 rating, 845,000 viewers) by more than 50%.
