Despite only being available for a portion of the tracking week, Selena Gomez’ new single “The Heart Wants What it Wants” managed to score a top ten position on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart.
Cut from Gomez’ upcoming greatest hits compilation, “Heart” places #6 on the publication’s digital sales chart on the strength of 102,000 opening week downloads. It ranks as the week’s hottest-selling new release.
The hottest-selling track overall, however, is once again Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.” Fueled by Trainor’s CMA Awards duet with Miranda Lambert, “Bass” rises to #1 courtesy 190,000 weekly sales.
Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” lands at #2 with 164,000, while “Shake it Off” grabs #3 with 130,000. The latter returns to the top ten after two weeks of absence (due to “Complete My Album” sales, which effectively turned the single purchase into an album buy, being deducted from its weekly counts).
Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” follows at #4 on the strength of 123,000 sales, while Maroon 5’s soaring “Animals” settles for #5. It moved 114,000 copies last week.
Other top ten sellers: Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” (84,000, #7), Carrie Underwood’s CMA Awards-boosted “Something in the Water” (84,000, #8), Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” (83,000, #9) and Tove Lo’s “Habits” (81,000, #10).
