Selena Gomez’ “The Heart Wants What it Wants” Opens as Pop’s #43 Song

Fueled by an hourly airplay promotion, Selena Gomez’ new single “The Heart Wants What it Wants” arrives within the Top 50 of Mediabase’s pop radio chart after a day of availability.

The actress-singer’s new track commanded 978 spins in its first day of release. That ranks as the pop format’s 43rd-largest for the entire week between October 31 and November 6.

As long as “Heart” receives decent airplay on Friday and Saturday, it should be able to reach the Top 40 in time for the unveiling of Mediabase’s official weekly chart Sunday evening. It will need roughly 300 spins over the next two days to make the leap.

Featured in large markets, “The Heart What it Wants” performed even better from an audience standpoint. Its opening day impression count of 9.66 million was pop’s 36th-largest for the week.
