Update 2: As expected, correction for Monday’s Houston football pre-emption resulted in a downward adjustment for “Jane the Virgin.”
The freshman CW drama drew a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating with 1.36 million viewers in its second broadcast. Both numbers trail their counterparts–a 0.6 rating and 1.61 million viewers–from the premiere episode.
Despite the nontrivial decline, “Jane the Virgin” secured a full season order from The CW. Hit new series “The Flash,” predictably, also received a back order from the network.
The CW led into Monday’s “Jane” with “The Originals” (0.6 rating, 1.27 million viewers).
==========
Update: While The CW’s “Jane” enjoyed improvement in the fast national ratings, it is worth noting that the broadcast was pre-empted for football in the Houston market. That means the data will be subject to revision (almost certainly downward) in the finals.
Overnight metered market ratings have never been entirely accurate in their foretelling of adults 18-49 and viewership performances, but they have been particularly inaccurate in the case of recent The CW shows.
Consider “Jane the Virgin.” Down a tick in the overnights, the freshman series nonetheless enjoyed a rare second-week improvement in the fast national ratings.
After premiering last week to a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating, “Jane” improved to a 0.7 in week two. Viewership was also up slightly to 1.75 million.
Panned as a concept, “Jane the Virgin” ended up earning strong reviews for its actual pilot. The uptick suggests audiences shared that critical enjoyment.
