Ratings: “Gotham” Down Only Slightly This Week (Updated)

Update: While the overnights portrayed a slight increase for this week’s “Gotham,” the fast nationals reveal a minor week-over-week decline in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Monday’s episode drew a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating with 6.24 million viewers.  Last week’s episode posted a 2.5 rating with 6.36 million.

A decline is never ideal, but for a high-concept freshman series in its fourth week of broadcast (and already confirmed for a full season), a drop so minor should not produce any stress.  The fact that the show added viewers as it progressed (rising from a 2.3 with 6.04 million viewers from 8-8:30PM to a 2.5 with 6.44 million from 8:30-9PM) should provide further encouragement.

FOX followed “Gotham” with “Sleepy Hollow.”  The drama drew a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating with 4.85 million viewers.  The rating matches last week’s showing in the demo, while the viewership total exceeds the previous episode’s 4.46 million average.

Considering it came just three weeks into the season, it is doubtful FOX’s decision to order an additional six episodes of “Gotham” came with any reservation.

But any doubt that did exist was likely put to bed by Monday’s episode. For the first time this season, “Gotham” posted a week-over-week increase in the overnight metered market ratings.

While there is no guarantee the same will be true of the show’s adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers, the overnight growth does reflect the emergence of stability regarding the new series’ performance.

Up 2% from last week’s number, this week’s episode delivered a 4.7 overnight household rating.

“Sleepy Hollow,” which led out of “Gotham,” improved slightly to a 3.2.
