Update: The recipient of an upward adjustment in the final Nielsen report, the premiere of ABC’s new comedy “Selfie” settles at a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating with 5.31 million viewers.

New comedy “Manhattan Love Story,” which led out of “Selfie,” delivered a 1.5 with 4.70 million.

Update: Neither “Selfie” nor “Manhattan Love Story” debuted impressively for ABC Tuesday.

“Selfie” opened the network’s primetime lineup with a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating and 4.88 million viewers.  “Love Story” then followed with a 1.3 and 4.27 million at 8:30PM.

Clearly unremarkable, the numbers nonetheless provide ABC with one opportunity for positive spin:  they top those delivered by FOX’s 9PM comedies “New Girl” and “The Mindy Project.”

While their adults 18-49 ratings could potentially paint a rosier picture, ABC’s new comedies “Selfie” and “Manhattan Love Story” did not dazzle in the overnights.

The two comedies, which opened ABC’s Tuesday in the 8PM hour, drew respective overnight household ratings of 3.7 and 3.2.

Indicative of modest overall viewership, the overnight ratings are not low enough to completely rule out the possibility of respectable showings in adults 18-49. They are also considerably better than what rival network FOX scored for its 9PM comedy block (“New Girl” drew a 2.0, “The Mindy Project” posted a 1.8).

And insofar as 9PM drama “Agents of SHIELD” drew a 3.2, they are not the network’s nightly weak links from an overnight ratings standpoint. With a 3.9 at 10PM, ABC’s “Forever” was, however, the network’s strongest overnight performer Tuesday.

But if ABC hoped “Selfie” and “Manhattan Love Story” would emerge as particularly strong performers, the overnights do not represent a dream fulfilled.
