A song about “Cool Kids” is one of pop radio’s hottest tunes.
According to Mediabase’s rolling chart, the breakthrough effort from sibling pop band Echosmith was pop’s 20th-most-played song during the seven days ending August 18. It earned 3,607 plays across that seven day period, which represented a week-over-week increase of 590.
Those 3,607 spins garnered the song 18.42 million audience impressions, which represents pop’s 20th-largest audience.
With so many songs enjoying a rapid rise, “Cool Kids” will likely face immense difficulty in retaining its #20 position through Sunday, which is when Mediabase releases its “official” pop airplay chart.
But no matter the actual ranking, the strong exposure is proving very fruitful for the song. “Cool Kids” is within the top 20 on iTunes’ overall single sales chart.
— One of the songs on the rapid rise is Katy Perry’s “This is How We Do,” which reaches #24 on the latest edition of the rolling chart. Driven by an impressive week-over-week spin gain of 1,557, “This is How We Do” scored a total of 2,826 spins over the aforementioned measured period.
Only Meghan Trainor’s #14 “All About That Bass” (+2,458) and Charli XCX’s #4 “Boom Clap” (+2,147) are making bigger gains at pop radio.
