Thanks to the format’s largest single-day spin count increase, Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” confirms Headline Planet’s projection and enters the Top 5 at pop radio.
The song, which received 11,645 pop spins during the seven day period ending August 8, leapfrogs Ariana Grande’s declining “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)” to reach #5 on Mediabase’s rolling pop radio airplay chart.
“Problem” garnered 11,386 pop plays during the aforementioned period, which represents a week-over-week decline of 1,890. If that rate of decline continues, it will relinquish its #6 spot to Maroon 5’s “Maps” within the next few days.
Not simply the recipient of more spins, “Boom Clap” also attracted a larger audience than “Problem” during the aforementioned period. Its weekly audience impression count of 75.29 million bests the 73.75 million achieved by the Ariana Grande tune.
Facing no imminent threat to its current chart position, “Boom Clap” will secure the #5 spot on Mediabase’s official, weekly airplay chart. That chart, which is published late Sunday evening, measures airplay from Sunday through Saturday (August 3-August 9, in this case).
Sure to go higher on the airplay chart, the song will nonetheless require more than a week to improve its position. It is separated by several thousand spins from Disclosure’s still-rising #4 song “Latch (featuring Sam Smith)” and Nico and Vinz’ declining #3 “Am I Wrong.”
The #11 song on Billboard’s Hot 100, “Boom Clap” is currently #19 on Mediabase’s Hot Adult Contemporary airplay chart and #34 on its Rhythmic airplay listing.
