Ariana Grande’s “Break Free” Goes Top 40, Kiesza on the Cusp

The bad news? Ariana Grande’s “Problem (Iggy Azalea)” is losing steam at pop radio and will soon relinquish its number one airplay position to Nico and Vinz’ “Am I Wrong.”

The good news? Her new single “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” has officially cracked the Top 40 on Mediabase’s rolling airplay chart.

While the single, which is rising quickly but not unprecedentedly so, has a long way to go before it flirts with the Top 10, let alone the #1 spot, it is definitely off to a promising start.

Despite not even being available for the full week, “Break Free” was the 38th-most-played song for the seven days ending July 7. According to Mediabase, it generated 929 spins and a healthy audience count of 10.04 million impressions over that period.

Other notables on the latest rolling pop radio airplay chart:

— “Problem” is not the only song to break into the top 40; Ingrid Michaelson’s “Girls Chase Boys” also made the leap. It was the #40 song for the seven days ending July 8.

— Its current tenure in the Top 40 will, unfortunately, not be a long one. By tomorrow, Kiesza’s “Hideaway,” which is only one spin behind the Michaelson song and rising much faster, will overtake it on the Mediabase chart.

— Maroon 5’s “Maps” has officially gone top 10. It replaces Jason DeRulo’s “Wiggle (featuring Snoop Dogg)” in the #10 spot.
