Update: Facing competition from the BET awards (but not the special edition of “America’s Got Talent” that impacted last week’s premiere), Sunday’s edition of “Rising Star” endured a 20% drop in the adults 18-49 demographic.
The Fast National rating, which is being treated as very tentative due to the live nature of the broadcast, clocked in at a 1.2.
Viewership was down 10% to 4.7 million.

Its title might feature the word “rising,” but ratings for ABC’s new music competition series do not appear to be moving upward.
After debuting to a paltry 3.2 overnight household rating last Sunday, “Rising Star” slipped to a 2.7 for this week’s follow-up episode.
While there is no guarantee “Rising Star” endured a similar 16% loss in the adults 18-49 and total viewership columns, which came in at a 1.5 and 5.2 million, respectively, last week, there is also no reason to believe the show improved in those areas.
And insofar as those were already considered very disappointing for a high-profile launch, it is hard to imagine this week’s numbers will be received favorably.
Based on the preliminary overnight data, the only positive is the fact that “Rising Star” built out of its “Wipeout” lead-in. That broadcast drew a 2.3 overnight household rating at 8PM.
