Waging an early war against the prospect of being dismissed as a novelty act, Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande made significant waves with “The Way (featuring Mac Miller),” the lead single from her debut album “Yours Truly.”
The solid reception to that song had nothing, however, on that given to her recent release “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea).” The song, which serves as the lead single from her upcoming sophomore album, has reached #1 on pop radio, #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is one of the year’s best-selling digital tracks.
A game changing release for Grande, the song has also created enormous expectations for her follow-up “Break Free (featuring Zedd).” Working hard to build buzz around the release, Grande this weekend released a teaser of both the song and the accompanying video on Instagram (listen and view below).
Set to release early next week, the track represents Grande’s attempt to score another trip to the top ten of Billboard’s Hot 100.
She was unable to do that during the album cycle for “Yours Truly.” After reaching #9 with “The Way,” Grande failed to break into the top 20 with another song from the debut album.
Grande has already gone as high as #2 with the lead single from her sophomore album. Can “Break Free” make it two-in-a-row for the pop star?
