Maroon 5’s “Maps,” Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” Erupt at Pop Radio

After sitting on their hands last week, Top 40 radio programmers jumped at the chance to add a pair of new tunes to their rotations this week.

The format’s largest welcome went to Maroon 5’s new “Maps,” which Mediabase reports earned a whopping 94 adds this week. Responsible for one of the strongest add weeks in recent memory, the blazing hot reception puts “Maps” in immediate position to work its way up the chart.

Powerhouse stations like Z100 and KIIS were among the 94 to add the new Maroon 5 song.

Radio also reacted favorably to Charli XCX’s solo breakthrough “Boom Clap.” The tune, which is cut from the “The Fault in Our Stars” soundtrack, landed at 60 stations this week. The aforementioned Z100 was one of the stations to get behind the song.

After reigning as the most-added track during last week’s light week, Demi Lovato’s “Really Don’t Care (featuring Cher Lloyd)” had another solid week with 28 adds. The remix to Florida Georgia Line’s “This is How We Roll,” which features Jason DeRulo, followed with 27 adds for its impact this week, while MAGIC!’s blockbuster “Rude” landed at another 21 stations.

Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High),” which reached the Top 20 on alternative, ranked as the week’s sixth-most-added with a respectable 20 station pickups. Pharrell’s enduring “Come Get it Bae” also scored 20 adds.

Jennifer Lopez’ “First Love” was the week’s eighth-most-added with 19 pickups, while KONGOS’ crossover hit “Come With Me Now” was good for fifteen. Capital Cities’ “One Minute More,” which officially impacted the format last week, garnered 13 more adds this week.

While it was not one of the week’s ten-most-added, one of the irrefutable MVPs was Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be.” The list of ten stations to pick up the international smash included Z100, KIIS and the new 92.3AMP in New York.

Betty Who’s “Somebody Loves You,” which impacted alongside the Maroon 5, Charli XCX, FGL and Tove Lo songs this week, scored a lukewarm 8 adds.

Insofar as Mediabase’s airplay chart only includes data from monitored stations, it is also looking at how songs resonated with those reporters:

1) Maroon 5 – Maps – 89 monitored adds
2) Charli XCX – Boom Clap – 56
3) Demi Lovato – Really Don’t Care ft. Cher Lloyd – 26
3) Florida Georgia Line – This is How We Roll ft. Jason DeRulo – 26
5) MAGIC! – Rude – 21
6) Tove Lo – Habits (Stay High) – 20
7) Pharrell – Come Get it Bae – 18
8) Jennifer Lopez – First Love – 17
9) Enrique Iglesias – Bailando ft. Descemer Bueno, Sean Paul, Gente De Zona – 13
10) KONGOS – Come With Me Now – 13
