“Game of Thrones” Returns to Best HBO Ratings Since “The Sopranos”

It might not be as big as “The Walking Dead,” but it likes to behave very similarly.

For the third consecutive year, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” season premiere enjoyed year-over-year growth in viewership.

Sunday’s season four premiere, which aired without competition from AMC’s zombie juggernaut, attracted a series high 6.6 million viewers.

Up from the 4.4 million viewership mark for the season three premiere, the audience figure is the largest for HBO since the series finale of “The Sopranos” drew 11.9 million in 2007.
