FOX’s “Surviving Jack” Premieres to Weak Ratings

“American Idol” was once so dominant that it could help a thoroughly incompatible lead-out series premiere to strong ratings.

Times have changed.

With ratings for “American Idol” now firmly in an unremarkable ballpark, FOX’s new comedy “Surviving Jack” did not receive the plum lead-in it might have once anticipated.

Combined with its limited appeal as a self-starter, “Jack” opened to very soft ratings Thursday night.

Airing out of an “American Idol” that drew an unimpressive 1.9 adults 18-49 rating with 7.98 million viewers, “Jack” settled for a 1.3 with 5.15 million.

Insofar as FOX’s ratings have tanked across the board, expectations for series premiere ratings have presumably been relaxed. But regardless of its current standing with FOX executives, “Surviving Jack” most certainly did not begin its run as any sort of hit.
