A platform for recognizing musical acts on the cusp of superstardom, it is only fitting that the mtvU Woodie Awards festival would feature performances from two of 2014’s likely breakouts.
The network announced Tuesday that buzzworthy duo Phantogram and MTV “Artist to Watch” Echosmith will perform at the March 13 event, which serves as a precursor to the 10th Annual Woodie Awards ceremony.
An electro rock duo consisting of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, Phantogram recently made waves with the release of new LP “Voices.” Echosmith, a pop-rock band consisting of four siblings, has enjoyed an exploding profile in the wake of its MTV “Artist to Watch” selection. It is currently garnering attention for “Cool Kids,” a single from its 2013 debut “Talking Dreams.”
Previously confirmed festival acts include Sam Smith, American Authors, London Grammar, Wild Cub, Bleachers and Vic Mensa. Childish Gambino, Iggy Azalea (with Charli XCX) and The 1975 will perform during the actual Woodie Awards show.
Shailene Woodley and Theo James will also be in attendance to debut a clip from their new film “Divergent.”
Sway, Charlamagne and Nessa will serve as emcees.
