In a bizarre, presently-inexplicable development, all four pieces of CBS’ Monday comedy lineup sank to season lows this week.
While at least some members of the comedy block have endured a late-winter/early-spring loss of momentum in previous seasons, notable drops typically came as a result of high-profile competitor “Dancing with the Stars” beginning its spring cycle on ABC. The drop this week came without that increase in competition.
And though “The Voice” is officially a Monday monster and clearly takes a chunk out of the CBS audience, it is unclear why the comedies would have sunk more significantly this week given that “The Voice” performed better last week.
“How I Met Your Mother” opened the night to the tune of a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating and 9.1 million viewers. Ratings more-line with its historical average, it seems “Mother” has lost at least most of the ratings spike it surprisingly received at the onset of the season. “2 Broke Girls” followed with a 3.7 and 10.5 million viewers.
Long-time flagship “Two and a Half Men” fell to a 3.8 with 12.4 million viewers and is now no longer within the realm of contending with CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” for the top ranking on the network. “Mike & Molly” mustered a 3.3 with 11.0 million viewers.
Non-comedy “Hawaii 5-0” closed the night with a 2.6 and 9.5 million.
