In the world of NBC’s “The Office,” being a scene-stealing actor has its benefits.
James Spader, who audiences and critics viewed as the clear MVP of May’s star-studded finale, has officially joined the cast as a regular. NBC confirmed the major casting addition in a press release Wednesday.
Portraying the eccentric Robert California, Spader appeared in the season finale as a potential replacement for Steve Carell’s Michael Scott. As reported by Headline Planet weeks ago, however, the character was to quickly ascend the latter and become the CEO of Sabre, replacing Kathy Bates’ Jo Bennett.
Paul Lieberstein, executive producer and the man behind Toby, confirmed the character’s rapid climb, explaining, “He’ll have been hired over the summer as the new [regional] manager, but within hours, got himself promoted. Within days, he took over the company.
With Spader stepping into the CEO role, it is unclear how “The Office” will go about filling the regional manager post left vacant when Carell’s Michael Scott left Scranton.
