NBC Gives “The Voice” Post-Super Bowl Slot

NBC confirmed Tuesday that its breakout music competition series “The Voice” will receive the post-Super Bowl slot in 2012.

Putting its unscripted powerhouse behind the Super Bowl seemed inevitable, especially following the lackluster performance for FOX’s broadcast of “Glee” after the record-setting 2011 game and its own disappointment of an “Office” rating in 2009. Of the most recent Super Bowl broadcast cycle, CBS had the best-performing lead-out with the premiere of unscripted “Undercover Boss.”

The network’s one-hour “The Voice” special will focus on the “blind auditions” round. The main gimmick of the series, the episodes featuring said blind auditions premiered to huge numbers last month–ratings have softened for the subsequent battle rounds.
