The ongoing ratings struggle spurred pessimism, but at the end of the day, FOX was apparently unwilling to part with its cult hit “Fringe.” The show has been renewed for a fourth season.
The news came via showrunner JH Wyman, who Tweeted, “Fringe was picked up!!!! Thanks Fringedom!” late Thursday night.
Still settling into its new Friday timeslot, “Fringe” has been struggling to achieve ratings stability and actually dropped to a series low 1.3 adults 18-49 rating for its most recent episode.
But given the network’s struggle to build anything scripted on Fridays in recent years, and given Fringe’s cult popularity, it appears the network is not yet convinced the show needs to go.
Deadline says the renewal is for a full, 22-episode fourth season.
