Once part of the “best pound-for-pound fighter in the world” discussion, bantamweight Miguel Torres made his official UFC debut at Saturday’s UFC 126 pay-per-view.
The former WEC standout is in the process of working back towards a shot at the title, and that track put him opposite Antonio Banuelos for his Octagon debut.
Would Torres impress on his first UFC pay-per-view card? Or would the much-smaller Banuelos score the upset victory? The result follows:
Miguel Torres b. Antonio Banuelos via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
*Story of the fight: Torres clearly earned the victory, but this was far from a star-making performance. Torres primarily relied on his size/reach advantage, controlling the fight by keeping the much-shorter Banuelos at a steep distance. Banuelos occasionally closed the distance for some powerful strikes, but most of the offense belonged to the former WEC champion.
