Jake Shields Confirmed for UFC Debut Against “Top Contender”

Update: While Jake Shields is planning to begin competing in the UFC, he has not officially signed his contract with the promotion, according to multiple online reports.

Fighter Jake Shields attends the Strikeforce Fedor vs. Werdum fight in San Jose,CA on June 26, 2010.

Several months ago, UFC President Dana White essentially mocked Strikeforce, sitting next to its champion Jake Shields at a UFC event with a wide grin on his face. Now, he has the man who dominated Dan Henderson in his last Strikeforce fight readying for a debut with the world’s number one mixed martial arts promotion.

GracieFighter.com reported late Thursday night that Shields will soon be debuting in Ultimate Fighting Championship as a welterweight.

“Jake’s opponent is one of the UFC’s top contenders and will be announced shortly,” added the website.

  1. I presume Silva wins, for the reason that I suspect Jones would be overconfident is his ability to weather/dodge Anderson’s strikes, but if he got hold of him and imposed his strength it could possibly be ugly.
