Never one to pull punches in post-fight interviews, UFC President Dana White stated, quite plainly, that he felt one of the UFC 114 fight decisions was incorrect.
“I thought it was bullsh*t,” White said of the decision victory for Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in his bout with Jason Brilz. Nogueira took the fight via split decision–29-28, 28-29, 29-28.
“I’m no f*cking judge, but I thought Brilz won the fight,” added White.
Brilz, who fought the veteran Nogueira as a late replacement for injured Forrest Griffin, was viewed as a long underdog, with many mixed martial arts fans and critics contending that he should not have been booked against someone of Nogueira’s caliber.
But when the fight rolled around at UFC 114: Rampge vs. Evans Saturday, Brilz more than held his own. After hanging with “Lil Nog” in a close first round that many analysts felt he won, he then dominated Nogueira in round two, the most decisive round of the fight. Few gave Brilz the edge in round three, in which a revived Nogueira started controlling the pace, but the first two rounds would have been enough to give him the victory.
For all his support of Brilz, however, White again put some of the blame on the fighter, pointing to Brilz’s failure to finish the fight in the second round as a fatal error.
“I think Brilz could have knocked Lil Nog out in the second round, he should have f*cking [gone] for it,” noted White. “Nog was hurt…you can’t leave it in the hands of the judges.”
I can understand how they scored the fight. If they mark down points scored as opposed to who “looked like they won”
Nog could barely breath, and was completely gassed when talking to Rogan. But its not how beaten you are, its how many points you scored.
