— While Jon Fitch’s originally-scheduled bout with Thiago Alves presented itself as a “number one contender’s” fight, UFC President Dana White implied early Sunday morning that his replacement match with Ben Saunders might not have carried the same weight.
Fitch dominated Saunders for three rounds Saturday night, but his failure to finish the bout–an issue that has been held against Fitch by MMA insiders and fans in recent years–apparently did not sell Dana White on the idea that Fitch must receive a second title shot against Welterweight top dog Georges St. Pierre.
White would only tell press that Fitch was “in the mix” after Saturday’s big win. It appears that White will closely follow the upcoming UFC 113 pairing of Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley to see if anyone emerges as a more definitive contender for GSP’s title.
Since losing in his title match with GSP, Fitch has gone 4-0, winning all four bouts via decision.
— The UFC Heavyweight Championship unification bout between Champ Brock Lesnar and Interim Champ Shane Carwin is being eyed for UFC 116 on July 3.

Carwin Lesnar would be great. I think they should put Mir vs Cain Velasquez on the under card.
