Prior to his recent battle with Nate Marquardt, Demian Maia was being hyped as a phenom within UFC’s Middleweight division.
The undefeated fighter had demonstrated some of the best jiu-jitsu in the sport of mixed martial arts, and he appeared on track to test his skills against Champ Anderson Silva.
But that clash was not to be in the short-term. At UFC 102, Marquardt put the Maia hype to sleep with a knockout victory just 21 seconds into the fight.
At UFC 109, Maia tried to redeem his name against Dan Miller, who was coming off a loss against Chael Sonnen, the man who was to face Marquardt in the co-main-event of the “Relentless” pay-per-view.
Who won?
Demian Maia defeated Dan Miller via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
